Gerard Harlay

Your project to put photos on line is very important.

Children at that time were at the centre of the conflict.

The army had brutally invaded their universe, their playground: the street.

After all these years, I wanted to give my images back home, to the community.

These aren't my pictures, these pictures are your life, your history.

Those who have lived through the troubles will be able to show to the youngest ones what really happened.

I hope with all my heart that peace will be preserved.

Gérard Harlay

Gérard’s archive of almost 3000 images were shot during visits in; April-May, August and December 1972, January and March, 1973, January 1974 and August 1976.
